What is Exercise Physiology?

Exercise Physiology is an Allied Health discipline which requires a minimum four-year university degree. Exercise Physiologists specialise in prescribing exercise to prevent, manage and treat chronic disease and or injuries.

Does my health fund cover Exercise Physiology?

Depending on your level of cover, Exercise Physiology sessions may be partially covered by your health fund. It is best to contact them directly prior to your appointment.

Do you bulk bill under Medicare?

No, we do not bulk bill. Medicare can provide you with up to 5 rebated sessions under a chronic disease management plan as per your GP. These will give you $60.34 back per session provided under Medicare.

Do I need to join the gym to see your Exercise Physiologist?

No, you do not need to join PitFit to see our Exercise Physiologist. Discounted memberships are available at our locations which give you access to the gym classes at PitFit. Speak to your Exercise Physiologist to see if this is appropriate for you.

What should I expect from the initial consultation?

The purpose of the initial consultation is to get an understanding of you, your health and exercise history so as to come up with suitable exercise plan which will meet your needs. This will be followed up by some physical assessments - for example cardiovascular fitness, strength and/or mobility testing as indicated. Your exercise physiologist will inform you of the results and help you set goals as well as formulate an exercise management plan.

What do I need to bring to my initial consultation?

Make sure you are wearing appropriate active wear, closed in shoes, a stare bottle and towel. If referred make sure to bring your referral forms and medicare/private health fund details. You may also wish to bring medical documentation or scans to assist with gathering your medical history and any recent or chronic injuries.

How do I pay for the session?

As invoice will be sent to your email following the session with a Stripe link to make a payment. Click the link and enter your card details as prompted. Payment is due within 7 days of receiving the email. If you wish to claim through Private health or Medicare, a receipt will be sent to your email to be completed online. If you have technical difficulties, please speak to your Exercise Physiologist.

What if I need to cancel?

Please let us know within 24 hours of your session cancellation. Cancellations after this point will be charged the full fee for the session unless the cancellation is due to extenuating circumstances.
